Resumo

O projeto consiste na tradução, a partir do original grego, do documento cristão antigo comumente chamado de Segunda Clemente – considerado o escrito homilético cristão mais antigo, após alguns textos neotestamentários. Junto à tradução, desenvolve-se estudo linguístico-filológico sobre o escrito, observando a intertextualidade de II Clemente em relação a textos por ele citados, mormente o Novo Testamento. Buscam-se a autoria, datação e destinatário. Da mesma maneira, o gênero literário em que se encaixa o texto é objeto de análise. Os dados são extraídos de aspectos intertextuais e, se necessário, evidências extratextuais serão relevadas.
A tradução se baseia na mais recente edição crítica em grego de Segunda Clemente, publicada em 2007. Encontra-se em The Apostolic Fathers: Greek texts with English translations, de Michael W. Holmes. O estudo introdutório utiliza vasta bibliografia, com artigos e livros principalmente em língua inglesa.
A importância do projeto se dá pelo caráter inédito da pesquisa nos estudos clássicos de Língua Portuguesa. Não existem, no vernáculo, estudos ou traduções acadêmicos de II Clemente. Tendo sido escrito para público específico, com caráter hortatório, o documento revela aspectos da arte homilética cristã primitiva, e apresenta características pouco analisadas no Brasil.
